MEET ASH

Psychologist, Writer/Designer


Dr Ash King is a registered psychologist, writer/designer and the founder of Heavy Mental. She is currently the resident psychologist at Support Act, Australia’s music industry charity, and completed a Phd with the Cyberpsychology Research Group at The University of Sydney (researching social media and authenticity).

Over the past few years, Ash has facilitated workplace wellbeing workshops for brands and organisations including AmazonAPRA/AMCOSUnified MusicAustralian Institute of MusicAustralian College of the ArtsLinktreePedestrian TV, UNSW, Bigsound and Pinterest.

In her work at Support Act, Ash helps devise, curate and deliver resources & programs to boost the mental wellbeing of people working in music.

Ash has provided expert opinions to publications including Vogue AUThe Guardian, News.com.au, SBSRefinery29ABC Everyday, Zee Feed, Russh Magazine, Elle Mag, WILD Wellbeing, Body + Soul, The Sydney Morning Herald and Lifehacker, and appeared as a mental health expert on Triple J’s Hack, Bigsound 2020, Arc UNSW’s Stress Less Week, and Russh Weekend. Ash’s former life in creative industries across tv & film, music, radio and theatre, offer her a fresh perspective when it comes to mental health and psychological wellbeing.

Short Bio: Dr Ash King is a psychologist and writer/designer. After her life in the music industry came to an abrupt halt following a vocal injury, she uses psychology & mindfulness to help folks live their best lives with creativity, passion and purpose. She has worked across a range of creative fields, including film & tv, live music, visual arts and radio, and run workshops and talks for Amazon, Pinterest, Linktree, Pedestrian TV, APRA/AMCOS and BigSound. She believes that learning to manage the mind can be a fun and inquisitive process. Through insight, wisdom and a splash of pop culture, she helps individuals & organisations develop practical skills to go deep, get wise, and be happy.
